It’s spooky month! Time to welcome back all the ghouls, monsters and pumpkins that have been hiding away for the past year. It’s also horror fanatics’ favorite time of year because they have the perfect excuse to watch all the scary movies (not that you ever need an excuse to do that because horror movies are awesome).
Every scary movie night needs a few yummy scary treats because there’s nothing scarier than growling stomachs and hangry guests.
These are so simple! Perfect for a last minute plan to get together, or if you’re really busy preparing everything else for your horror soirée and need something you can put together pretty quickly.
How adorable are these cookies?! And how yummy do they look? I love me a fun baking session and these cookies could easily top the list of fun things to bake. Look at the variety you can have! As seen here there are owls and vampires, but you can also do werewolves, ghosts, or Frankenstein’s Monster! Oh, and spiders, too. They’re an integral part of Halloween, I think.
Okay, here’s a main course for you. (Unless you prefer to have dessert first, as my friends and I often do.) We all love pizza rolls, so why not step it up a notch and make your own, but in the shape of skulls instead of rectangles. Not only are these super scary for your horror movie night, but you also have so much more freedom to put whatever you want inside. This is a build-your-own pizza roll. That’s honestly the best kind of pizza roll.
If you’re going to have spooky snacks, you’re going to need some spooky drinks to go with them. It keeps the spooky flowing.
First up: A classic.
Everyone loves Shirley Temples and this is the perfect drink for more kid-themed scary movie nights, or for those who will need to drive home later (because it’s a mocktail).
Ew. How cool are these shooters? How festive to drink a virus! These would be particularly appropriate while watching zombie- or outbreak-themed films. Just sayin’.
OooooOOOOooOO Brains! This one would pair so nicely with the shooters. Especially for a zombie movie night!
Okay, now for the most important question of the night: What movie(s) are you going to watch?? I fully believe that deciding what to watch is the most difficult decision to make on this planet. There are so many incredible options these days that it feels impossible to choose sometimes. Some enjoyable recommendations from Yours Truly include newer movies like IT (the movie, not the old miniseries, although you could watch that too), A Quiet Place, and Get Out, or classics like Halloween, Friday the 13th, or The Silence of the Lambs. You can always go the horror series route, as well, with Netflix’s newest series The Haunting of Hill House, which has received pretty impressive reviews so far. I have yet to check that one out, but trust me, I plan to.
Of course, if scary isn’t really your thing, there is always one of my personal favorites that I must watch every Halloween: Hocus Pocus. That’s definitely a fun, family-friendly option. Stranger Things is also a fun option - it has a little of the creepy and suspenseful, but overall it’s good fun that’s not too horrific.
If you’ve somehow managed to figure out what movies you’re going to watch, or at least narrow your options down, it’s time to figure out how you’re going to enjoy them. Comfort is essential when having a movie marathon so pack on the pillows and don’t forget the blankets in case you need to hide.
Or, with it being fall, maybe you could figure out a way to watch them outside if it’s not too cold yet. I know it’s starting to snow in some places, so this might be more of an option for those of us who don’t really experience seasons. If it is a bit too chilly, though, this is the time for hot tub owners to shine. Set up a projector and a screen by your tub and voila! a relaxing, warm movie night in the fresh air.
